Minecraft server status checker
Check if a Minecraft server is online for Java and Bedrock. See the MOTD, version, player count and latency in seconds.
Check a server
You get
- Online or offline status and response time
- MOTD with colours and server icon
- Version, protocol and player count
- Fixes if your server shows offline
How the server status checker works
We resolve the address (following the _minecraft._tcp SRV record for Java when no port is given) and send a status ping, the same way the game client does. Java uses the Minecraft status protocol. Bedrock uses a RakNet ping over UDP.
Private, loopback and reserved addresses are refused. Results are cached for 60 seconds.
My server shows offline — what to check
- Port forwarding: forward the game port to the machine running the server. Java uses TCP 25565 and Bedrock uses UDP 19132 by default.
- Firewall: allow the port in the operating system firewall and in your host's panel, not just in the router.
- SRV record: for Java, a
_minecraft._tcp.yourdomain.comSRV record must point at the host and port that actually accept connections. - server.properties: keep
enable-status=trueso the server answers the status ping. For the older query protocol also setenable-query=trueand a matching port. - Bind address: the server must listen on
0.0.0.0(or the public interface), not only on127.0.0.1. - online-mode and proxies: status works with
online-mode=true, but a proxy such as Velocity, BungeeCord or TCPShield must forward status requests to the backend. - Correct edition: a Bedrock server will not answer a Java ping. Choose the matching edition and port.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Minecraft server status checker free?
Yes. It is free and needs no account. Enter a Java or Bedrock address and we ping the server the same way the game client does.
My server shows offline, but players can still join. Why?
Players may be connecting through an SRV record or a proxy while the status ping is blocked. Check that enable-status is true in server.properties, that the server is bound to 0.0.0.0, and that any proxy (for example Velocity, BungeeCord or TCPShield) forwards status requests.
Does this tool work for Bedrock servers?
Yes. Choose the Bedrock edition and we send a RakNet unconnected ping over UDP, which is how Bedrock clients discover a server. Bedrock servers use UDP port 19132 by default.
Do you store the addresses I check?
No. The address is used for this lookup only and is never saved to an account or published. A short-lived cache (60 seconds) keeps repeated checks fast and limits how often we contact a server.
